To truly enjoy tennis, you need to play regularly with a variety of evenly matched opponents. That’s when tennis stops being boring and becomes one of the most exciting sports in the world! It’s like a physical and mental chess game that feels amazing, no matter if you win or lose.
But here’s the challenge: those exciting and competitive matches you crave can only happen with players at your exact skill level. Finding those players—near your home, and at times that fit your schedule—can feel nearly impossible. That’s actually the #1 reason people quit tennis.
I've been there...
Hi, I’m Scott Nunn, the founder of Ultimate Tennis and the flex league format. Like you, I’ve faced the same struggles trying to find quality matches that are both convenient and competitive.
In my journey as a player—from juniors to college—it became harder and harder to find matches at my skill level. Building a solid player network was slow and frustrating. I’d drive all over town, only to be disappointed by long trips and lopsided matches. Anytime my skill level improved or I moved to a new area, I had to start the process all over again.
When I became a teaching pro and started running a club, I noticed my students had the same problem. They didn’t just need lessons to improve—they also needed regular weekly matches.
Unfortunately, local leagues weren’t cutting it. They often had inconvenient schedules, teams were tough to join, and blowout matches were all too common because skill levels weren’t balanced. It shouldn’t be so hard to find quality tennis matches. There had to be a better way...
My lightbulb moment
I realized that tennis leagues should be easy and accessible for everyone, even if life is busy and demanding. You shouldn’t have to choose between tennis, work, or family time. A tennis league should fit into your schedule—not fight against it.

Over 30 years ago, I set out to make this vision a reality. It was an enormous project, but I was determined to create an entirely new tennis league system that delivers the ideal match.
